Overview of Trong and Trinh Nu Caves

Trong Cave and Trinh Nu Cave are located on Bo Hon Island, which is known as a cave paradise in Ha Long Bay. Along with Sung Sot Cave and Luon Cave, Trong Cave and Trinh Nu Cave are popular destinations for domestic and foreign tourists, and are part of the second cruise route to Ha Long Bay.

Unlike other caves that stand alone in the heritage bay, Trong Cave and Trinh Nu Cave always come in pairs. These two caverns are located around 700 meters apart across a tiny cove with interestingly shaped limestone outcrops. From the entrance of Trong Cave, visitors can see Trinh Nu Cave and vice versa.

The natural scenery outside Trong Cave and Trinh Nu Cave brings a sense of relaxation and peace, but the amazing stalactite structure inside the cave is what leaves a lasting impression on visitors.

Entering Trong Cave, visitors will admire the stalactites of different heights, dyed in a shimmering silver color. The cave’s most unique feature is a stone pillar formed like a young man facing towards the Trinh Nu Cave.

As for the Trinh Nu Cave, this large cave fascinates not only with its meandering stalactite system, carved into mysterious shapes by nature, but also with the contrast between inside and outside the cave. The entrance to the Trinh Nu Cave is wide open, offering a view of the vast, serene Ha Long Bay, with limestone islands rising above the blue water. Looking within, the intriguing and secret beauty of the stalactites appears to entice you.

What makes Trong and Trinh Nu Caves unique?

When visiting Trong Cave and Trinh Nu Cave, visitors will hear the legend of a touching and faithful love associated with these two caves.

The story goes that in a nearby fishing village, there was a poor yet extremely beautiful girl. The village’s landowner desired her beauty and sought to compel her to be his concubine. Because she already had a lover, the girl refused. As a result, the dictator deported her to a deserted island, where she died of starvation during a stormy night and turned to stone. That location is now known as Trinh Nu Cave.

The girl’s lover was a fisherman working offshore at the time. When the young guy learned that his sweetheart had been exiled to a remote island, he rushed back to find her. During the stormy night, his boat was wrecked, and the young guy drifted to an uninhabited island. He saw the girl and threw rocks at the cave wall to indicate his arrival. Finally, he banged until he was weary and turned into stone at what was later referred to as Trong Cave.
