Coming to Ha Long Bay, a famous activity that many tourists love to participate in is kayaking to explore the bay. Luon Cave is the perfect spot to experience this thrilling activity. Let’s learn more about this unique cave with Fola Travel!
Luon Cave is one of the most magnificent caverns in the heart of Ha Long Bay, located to the north of Bo Hon Island. With the postcard-perfect beauty of the green limestone islets and the calm turquoise water, it is easy to see why many travelers fall in love with Luon Cave!
Though not as big as other Halong Bay Caves, Luon Cave has been formed for millions of years. As the tide came in and out of the bay, gradually eroding the foot of Bo Hon Island, leaving a tunnel piercing through the limestone mountain.
Over time, the sea level lowered, and the tunnel began to appear above the surface, which became the Luon Cave that we can see today.
The uniqueness of Luon Cave lies in its structure: this water cave penetrates through the bottom of Bo Hon limestone island, measuring up to 100 meters in length, 4 meters in width, and 3 meters in height. The three sides of the limestone cave walls, sculpted over time into bizarre, vibrant formations, give the impression that you have entered a mystical world as you follow the water’s steady flow into the cave.
Through the lengthy water cave, you are led to a serene azure lake, where the beautiful natural panorama of Halong Bay unfolds in front of you, with towering mountains covered in lush green trees rustling in the sea wind. If you’re lucky, you can observe golden-haired mountain monkeys swinging from branch to branch, adding a joyful, dynamic touch to the peaceful natural surroundings.
Located on Bo Hon Island, Luon Cave, similar to Sung Sot Cave or Trong – Trinh Nu Cave, is part of cruise route number 2 of Ha Long Bay. You can rent a day cruise or an overnight cruise to reach Bo Hon Island, then rent a kayak to explore Luon Cave.
The price for hiring a kayak is about US $2 per boat for 2 people, but if you book a cruise tour with Fola Travel, this price is included in the tour price.

To best enjoy kayaking in Luon Cave, you should visit Halong Bay during the summer, from April to June. The weather this time is comfortable, sunny, and bright. There are sudden rains, but they pass pretty quickly.
Along with the good weather, the bay’s scenery seems to get more lively as the summer comes, with greeneries and flowers blossoming on the karst of Halong islands. Getting on a kayak (or bamboo boat) and exploring Luon Cave is an exciting activity you have to try!
Ti Top is one of Halong Bay’s most beautiful islands, where you may swim and relax on the white sand beach or trek to the top to see the stunning Halong view.
