In recent years, overnight cruises have become a popular choice for domestic and international visitors to experience Halong Bay, as you have the opportunity to discover more iconic landmarks, as well as join more exciting activities than a 1-day tour.
Most overnight cruises in Ha Long provide two itineraries: 2-day-1-night and 3-day-2-night. Each itinerary has its own interesting points, ensuring a wonderful experience for tourists over the water.
Check out Fola Travel’s list above for more information on each Halong Bay overnight cruise.
Boat Design
Compared to day boats in the bay, overnight cruises are usually bigger since they require space for cabins. Boat size ranges from 2 to 6 decks, accommodating 15 to over 50 rooms on each cruise. The cruise size and design vary greatly depending on the level of the boat: luxury, mid-range, or budget.
Luxury overnight cruises offer more spacious cabins and entertainment rooms, and usually opt for modern design with high-end facilities. Mid-range and budget cruises, on the other hand, offer a balance between quality cruising time and economical prices, often going for smaller but well-built ships.
For more pictures of each cruise level, see our overnight cruise catalog above.
Cabins on Halong Bay overnight cruises are designed to bring comfort and relaxation for visitors, with full-range amenities like bathrooms with bathtubs or standing showers, mirrors, sinks, mini-fridges, TV, bedside tables, and many more.
Overnight suites also take advantage of the incredible Halong Bay view, designed with floor-to-ceiling windows, or private terraces with a cozy lounge area looking out to the bay.
All Halong Bay overnight boats offer basic function venues, including restaurants, bars, and sundecks for sightseeing. With higher-level ships, tourists will receive more amenities. For example, mid-range cruises offer spa and sauna rooms, while 5-star cruises can provide onboard swimming pools, movie theaters, golf courts, karaoke rooms, wine lounges, etc.
For exact amenities provided with Halong Bay overnight cruises, see the Facility section included on each cruise information page.
Overnight cruises in Halong Bay offer a variety of onboard services, such as Sunset Party, Happy Hour, Vietnamese cooking class, spa & sauna services, private jacuzzis, conference and meeting rooms, you name it.
Meals provided on 1-night or 2-night cruises are either buffet or set menu, depending on the guest size. Generally, food is prepared by the in-house chef team using fresh seafood and produce sourced locally right in the bay, guaranteeing a delicious and safe cuisine experience.
The staff of Halong Bay overnight boats are carefully selected and strictly trained. They are professional, helpful, and welcoming and will cater thoroughly to your needs from the beginning to the end of your stay.
All overnight cruises must follow one of the five tourist itineraries set by the Halong Management Board. These itineraries include visits to well-known locations in Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay, and Bai Tu Long Bay, like Cat Ba Island, Vung Vieng Fishing Village, and Luon Cave, where you can partake in Halong Bay’s signature activities like kayaking, swimming, and cave exploration.

For your honeymoon or family holiday, when you want a more private or tranquil experience, a smaller cruise with a cozy, romantic atmosphere could be what you’re searching for.

It totally depends on your time and budget for the trip. In reality, a 1-night trip is enough to cover all the iconic landscapes and fun activities in Halong Bay without the rush of the full-day tour or the repetition of activities on a 2-night trip.
If you have a little more time and money to spare, Fola Travel recommends you check out our 2-night program. While some onboard services, like the Happy Hour or cooking classes, may be repeated on the second day, you can visit more tourist spots compared to 1-night tours.
