For tourists who love culture and history, Ba Hang Fishing Village is a place not to be missed when visiting Ha Long Bay.
Let’s learn about this special ancient fishing village with Fola Travel!
Ba Hang Fishing Village, located under the steep mountains of Dau Go Island, just approximately 3 kilometers southeast of Tuan Chau Island, is a popular stop for Ha Long cruises and is part of tour route 1.
This fishing town is very close to Thien Cung Cave, one of the most beautiful and enchanting caves in the heritage area, and it is definitely worth a visit!
In 2017, the Ba Hang fishing community was selected as the filming site for the blockbuster Kong: Skull Island. On the big screen, the tranquil, lyrical beauty of nature has truly left a strong impression on domestic and global viewers. Since then, Ba Hang Fishing Village has grown in popularity, attracting a large number of people who want to admire firsthand the fantastic beauty of the bay.
The history of Ba Hang Fishing Village spans hundreds of years. Under the towering islands, this small fishing village is home to about 50 fishing households. The lives of these households are relatively poor and challenging, as they depend on nature.
Since 2013, the Ha Long Bay management board has relocated fishing households on land to help them stabilize their life and integrate into the community. However, many locals continue to wish to stay in the fishing community and live at sea.
With the assistance of local authorities and businesses, Ha Long fishing residents, particularly those in Ba Hang Fishing Village, have joined the boat rowing community, taking tourists to the bay’s most beautiful areas, as well as introducing the simple, unique culture of the coastal people to international friends.
In addition to the natural beauty like a fairyland, it’s the friendliness and closeness of the people of Ba Hang Fishing Village that leave a great impression on visitors!
As previously stated, Ba Hang Fishing Village is located on Ha Long Bay Tour Route 1, including Thien Cung Cave, Dau Go Cave, Cho Da Islet, Dinh Huong Islet, and Trong Mai Islet. You may visit these locations by hiring a ship from Tuan Chau Island.
Route 1 is the shortest route on Ha Long Bay itineraries, and you can easily travel in one morning. Halong Odyssey Cruise, Sun Cruise, and Emeraude Day Cruises are popular choices among travelers that follow this route.
On these cruises, tourists will enjoy luxurious amenities such as 5-star restaurants overlooking the sea that provide great seafood buffets and Vietnamese food, large upper decks where travelers can easily enjoy the sea view and relax, and jacuzzis or karaoke rooms to entertain themselves.

The weather in the Ba Hang region is pleasant all year, although the finest months are from April through June (summer) and September through December (autumn – winter). These are the months with few storms and plenty of sunshine, ideal for swimming or kayaking in the lush green environment of the Ha Long Bay highlands.
Kayaking is the most remarkable activity you should not miss in Ba Hang Fishing Village. Imagine sitting on a colorful boat with a loved one, gliding softly on the cool water, observing the small and charming floating houses, or enjoying the majestic green limestone hills; all of these will leave you with everlasting memories.
If kayaking isn’t your thing, hire a bamboo boat rowed by a Ba Hang fisherman. Each boat can accommodate 5 – 7 people, making it ideal for a family or friends looking to explore the fishing village’s picturesque surroundings.
Aside from kayaking, travelers may visit local fish and shrimp farms and purchase fresh seafood as presents!
This is one of the most stunning limestone caves in Halong Bay, and is often dubbed a “sky palace” in real life. The ethereal beauty of the stalactites in Thien Cung Cave will leave you speechless.
This iconic islet was formed over thousands of years by limestone, seawater, and wind erosion. True to its name, this spot resembles a pair of chickens (Trong meaning rooster and Mai meaning hen) standing opposite one another, symbolizing steadfast and unchanging love.
Dau Go Cave, located on Dau Go Island, is a vast cave with old, tranquil beauty that is linked to various intriguing historical legends about Ha Long Bay.
Cho Da Islet is a little rock around 8 meters high that rests on the edge of Hang So Islet. From a distance, this limestone rock resembles a guard dog, greeting visitors to and from this beautiful harbor.
Dinh Huong Islet, a unique limestone island, is such a well-known sight in Ha Long Bay that it is included on the 200,000 VND banknote!
